All of the screws are self-tapping (except for 5.5mm screws) which means that tapping may only be required in very hard bone. Self-tapping screws should always protrude 2-3mm from the trans-cortex to allow full engagement of the thread with the cortical bone. This must be taken into account when using the depth gauge. Knight Benedikt???s range of stainless steel cortex screws includes screws with both a hex recess and a star drive recess. Hex screws are cheaper but the recess strips easier and a screwdriver sleeve is always recommended. Screws with a star drive recess on the other hand are very resistant to stripping.
