Headless compression screws are designed to compress bone fragments together without the need for a lag screw and allow accurate application of the AO techniques of perfect alignment, stability and compression, which is particularly important for articular fractures such as those affecting the humeral condyle where primary bone healing is necessary to prevent callus formation. Unlike traditional screws they lack a distinct head, which minimises the prominence of the implant and reduces soft tissue irritation. These screws are cannulated which allows for insertion of a k-wire during surgery to confirm accurate placement before placing the screw. This feature also allows these screws to be placed in a minimally invasive fashion. Compression is created by the varying pitch of the threads at the head and the tip of the screw, meaning that as the screw is tightened it advances through the respective bone fragments at different speeds, thus creating compression. 4.5 mm Countersink Compression Screws - T15Product Features??? Cancellous Partial Thread??? Diameter of thread: 4.5 mm??? Thread pitch: 1.75 mm??? Diameter of core: 3.0 mm??? Diameter of head: 5.0 mm- Drill bit: Cannulated 3.2mm - K-wire: 0.062 inches
